Words can't even begin to explain... (Christchurch)

This is the first thing I see when we pop out of the clouds on our decent into Christchurch, NZ:

The photos I took don't do it justice at all. Stephanie, can you see the beacons??? All joking aside,
I was absolutely mesmerized - I almost forgot to pull out my camera! It was absolutely breathtaking. I can't believe I'm here.

Once settled into Base Backpackers Christchurch, I walked over to the visitors centre to see what I can plan for tomorrow. The weather forecast is supposed to be super rainy and thunderstormy tomorrow, so "Greg" and I thought a vineyard tour would be more of a sure thing. Plus, as Greg puts it: "who doesn't like getting sloshed in the rain anyway?" Touch-e.

From there, I walked over to a nice restaurant (almost too nice, but oh well!) called "Cook'N With Gas" and had a fantastic meal. I'm not really one for eating on my own, but there was a really sweet older Kiwi couple in front of me, and I watched them befriend the British tourists next to them. Funny enough, "Dorothy" (Kiwi, Les's wife) was talking about how when her and Les went to the US, she was nervous about going to New York City. She was surprised, though, when everyone was so "nice" and that "we didn't even get robbed!" Apparently she left her purse on one of the double-decker tour buses, and an American woman yelled out from the top "Hey! You left your purse! Catch!" and threw it down to her - It's not much, but it made me smile while I watched them chat. It was cute.

It was here that I also had Hokey Pokey ice cream - "It's a Kiwi specialty!" the waiter told me. It's vanilla ice cream with crunchy, puffed up caramel balls inside - delicious!

From there I walked home and took more photos of Christchurch Cathedral. This was the last one I took of the night, and it is about 30 steps from my hostel. The tripod was a good decision - I can even get myself in some shots!

Beautiful...
